Chad Solomon is a widely acclaimed bartender, a cocktail gypsy if you will…booming back and forth creating & implementing beverage programs,
lecturing far and wide, and pouring at events everywhere in between since turning pro with his outfit Cuffs & Buttons™ in 2006.
Chad earned his black-belt behind the bar by working with two of the most
important and respected families of the New York cocktail scene: Milk & Honey™ and Pegu Club. Chad is widely acclaimed for his contributions of original cocktails, and his participation in the continual evolution and innovation of both of these bar programs.
Chad first got behind the bar in the fall of 2001 at the Cellar Bar in the Bryant Park Hotel. While working there, Chad met longtime partner Christy Pope who was working at craft cocktail bar Milk & Honey. After meeting Christy, Chad joined the Milk & Honey family in Spring 2002. In early 2005 Chad joined the bar staff of the Flatiron Lounge in preparation for the transition to Pegu Club, which opened in August later that year.
At the close of 2006, Chad left Milk & Honey and Pegu Club to join the
beverage-consulting agency Liquid Relations. While working with Liquid Relations, Chad conducted spirits trainings, developed cocktails, and traveled around the globe installing beverage programs for clients such as Fairmont Hotels, Sofitel Hotels, and SBE Entertainment. This work included the opening of the Rose Club and The Champagne Bar for New York City’s historic Plaza Hotel.
In addition to working in bars, Chad gained invaluable insight by working steadily in the world of high profile private events. In June 2006 Chad partnered with Christy Pope and Sasha Petraske to form Cuffs & Buttons Cocktail Catering & Consulting. He and his partners have become trailblazers in the niche industry of beverage catering, and have gone on to set the gold standard for the creation of craft cocktail experiences at events. In addition to its beverage catering services, Cuffs & Buttons has grown into a full service cocktail & spirits-consulting firm since its formation.
In the fall of 2008 Chad & Christy partnered with mentor Audrey Saunders to form “Here’s How!”™. The group was formed to capitalize on their collective beverage hospitality expertise. “Here’s How!” created the Tar Pit in Los Angeles, which included the fully developed supper club concept, name, design/décor, beverage menu, manuals, operational systems, and bar staff training. The Tar Pit opened in December 2009.
Chad is a graduate of the esteemed Beverage Alcohol Resource-spirits and mixology program. With Cuffs & Buttons, he was nominated for Daily Candy’s “Sweetie” award in 2007, honored with Food & Wine’s “100 must tastes of 2007” and the “Trendsetter of the Year” award in 2008 by Modern Bride. Chad has been featured in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Imbibe Magazine, Food & Wine Magazine, Modern Bride, and Gotham.
